LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A good and healthy meal is something many of us may take for granted.
According to the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, our state ranks number two in the nation when it comes to hunger.
For what the non-profit does to feed families, it’s been chosen to receive this month’s Difference Maker award from Rainwater, Holt, & Sexton.
Too many families across Arkansas don’t know where their next meal may be coming from and some of the hardest hit are children.
“Food insecurity is a huge problem for kids especially in the summer, spring breaks, holiday breaks,” explains Kathy Webb, Executive Director Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance. “The Hunger Relief Alliance attacks hunger in many different ways.”
Webb says it’s the only statewide organization dedicated to fighting hunger through a variety of avenues — food banks, pantries — policy making — and other non-profits.
The organization says 1 in 4 Arkansas kids are food insecure.
“People are realizing that kids that are hungry can’t focus. Kids who are hungry don’t learn as well. And people who are sick don’t get well as quickly who are already well,” she adds.
Webb and her organization are working to feed those less fortunate.
“We always love to have volunteers who can help us plant things or pick things. Volunteers who can help us cook and teach people how to cook,” she continues.
For what the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance is doing for people across the state, it’s being honored.
“On Behalf of Rainwater, Holt, & Sexton we want to congratulate you on receiving the Difference Maker Award.”
Money is being donated to help this non-profit pay it forward.
“With our thanks Rainwater, Holt, & Sexton wants to present the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance $1,000 with our appreciation,”.
The money will help make sure those who are hungry get the fuel they need to succeed.
