WHITE COUNTY, Ark. – A McRae man accused of running over his wife with a car has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Bobby Moss, 56, pleaded guilty Monday to a first degree murder charge in the Aug. 2016 death of Stacy Jo Moss.
Her family spoke to reporter Isabella Moller on Tuesday about reaching a point of closure nearly one year after losing their loved one.
They say the long prison term for Moss is justice for the mother and grandmother who was always there for them.
“The worst part is I still have no answers as to why,” says Brandi Strickland, daughter of the victim.
It’s the day in court for which Strickland and her family waited almost a year.
“He said he didn’t want to hear what I had to say that my mom was a psychotic anyhow,” Strickland says of Moss. “You’re my father. You’re my step-dad for 16 years, she told him.
In Aug. 2016, deputies with the White County Sheriff’s Office were called to the victim’s home on Moss Lane in McRae. They found her unconscious underneath a car. She was pronounced dead and her husband was arrested inside the home.
“My kids lost both their grandparents and the worst part is to tell them grandpa killed grandma,” Strickland continues.
“She was one of my favorite people,” says Kylah, Strickland’s 10-year-old daughter.
Grieving the loss of her grandma, Kylah says it’s hard not having her around, for holidays and summer fun.
“Fishing.. she loved to go swimming,” she adds.
“And now I have to figure out how to live without her,” says Strickland.
While she battles the loss of her mother, Strickland has figured out that she wants to help other women get out of abusive relationships, so that no one else has to go through life without their mom.
“Not to have your mom.. it wasn’t natural. It was all of a sudden she’s gone,” she says.
Moss must serve 70 percent of his sentence before being up for parole.
The family says after all of the help and support they have received they plan to pay it forward.
