LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – When you think of world champion boxers from Arkansas you may think of Jermain Taylor, but there’s another person looking to hold that title. It’s Kim Connor-Hamby and she’s going to put up the fight for it this weekend.

This is her first big fight outside the country. She’s a professional boxer, and a mom, how will be fighting the current title holder in Argentina. She’s already in South America, but her husband and gym say she’s never been more ready for the main event.

Kim Connor-Hamby is sparring and jabbing until the end. She’s getting ready for a fight like never before.

Her husband Michael Hamby is traveling to Argentina where she’s preparing for the International Boxing Federation female lightweight world title.

“It’s going to be wild. We’ve never traveled that far out of the country for a fight,” said Michael.

It’s been a dream of hers to hold that title and now she is getting her chance in the ring.

“I really do think she’s ready and I’m really hoping she can win,” said Michael.

Frank Vozel trains at StraightRight Boxing & Fitness in Little Rock, it’s the same gym Kim trains at.

He says she’s been practicing and believes she is ready to bring the title back to central Arkansas.

“She’s worked so hard trying to get fit, especially for this fight,” said Vozel. “I really think she’s the best she can be right now. She sure is doing good.”

As they continue, like normal, in their ring, he says regardless of what happens in Argentina she will come back a winner.

“I think everybody should be so proud that somebody from here locally can get at that level and go compete for a world championship,” said Vozel.

Michael says he knows his wife will put up a fight to bring a belt back home.

“There’s only been a couple world champs to come out of Arkansas, so it’s a pretty big deal to us,” said Michael.

Her fight is on Saturday. They will be keeping her Facebook page updated. To follow her fight, click here.
