HARRISON, Ark. (KOLR) – Community members are mourning the loss of two teens killed on Bull Shoals Lake Sunday.

Casey Ruley and Paul Woodruff, both 19, died when the bluff they were walking on crumbled beneath them.

Those who knew the teens says they were hard working and outgoing, and that both were starting to plan for life after high school.

“[They were] good boys,” says Thomas Honer, Western Sizzlin’ owner.

“Of course, Paul’s dad was the [Harrison] Police Chief. I didn’t know Casey’s father but I’m sure, it’s pretty sad,” he says.

Honer says the teens began working at Western Sizzlin’ at the age of 16 and had recently found employment elsewhere.

He says Ruley was still working for him one day a week – including the morning before the tragic accident near the marina in Diamond City.

“They were doing exactly what everyone else would have done during the summer,” says Anne Milburn, Harrison Public Schools counselor, “go to the lake, have fun.”

Milburn says Ruley graduated in 2015 and Woodruff was a member of the class of 2016.

She says with school out, many of the young men’s classmates are using social media to share their grief and condolences.

Milburn says last night she found a Facebook message from Ruley outlining the next steps of his life.

“He was working two jobs, he was thinking about going to the military,” she says. “That kind of hit me hard last night, thinking about him. It can happen so fast, and now he can’t really do that.”

According to the Coffman Funeral Home, Woodruff was recently married and was expecting a child later this summer.

Milburn says he was also a quadruplet.

“He was the only boy, so he had his sisters telling him what to do all the time,” she says. “That’s what they did, they were in charge. They worked a lot, they all worked a lot.”

“[They were] very respectful and for that age group, for them to be respectful, it’s just not out there very often,” adds Honer.
