LITTLE ROCK, AR – The mayor of Little Rock is joining those calling for the renaming of Confederate Boulevard.
The neighborhoods surrounding Confederate Boulevard are predominately African American. Some of them say having to drive down that road everyday is insulting.
But others in the community, don’t see it as being that big of a deal. And businesses along the boulevard say changing the name would be costly.
“The word Confederate means that you left the us because you wanted to maintain slavery, that’s what the word means that’s what the flag means,” says Gloria Springer.
Supporters of changing the name say they are close to collecting enough signatures to put the issue before the Little Rock Board of Directors.
Mayor Mark Stodola told FOX16 on Thursday that he wants the entire thing changed to Springer Boulevard.
