LITTLE ROCK, AR – Mayor Mark Stodola has delivered his 2015 State of the City address.
Speaking from the newly-opened 12th Street Station at noon on Thursday, Stodola summarized the city’s accomplishments of the past year and outlined visions, goals and challenges for this year.
Mayor Stodola touched on everything from capital projects, public works, parks and recreation, economic development, unemployment and Main Street to the arts center, neighborhood revitalization, schools, public safety and the fire department.
One of the major projects underway by the city includes the West Central Community Center. Plans are also in the works for a West Little Rock police station in the Old Pankey building on Highway 10.
City crews coordinated the completion of 51.3 miles of city streets in 2014, along with 6,601 linear feet of sidewalks. The first phase of our Natural Steps Sports Complex opened up with soccer and lacrosse fields on Highway 300 and improvements continue for Western Hills Park in southwest Little Rock. Also on the drawing board; the building of restrooms at the Big Dam Bridge.
The mayor also gave a nod to organizers of the Little Rock Marathon for a successful event that included more than 10-thousand runners.
“The heart of a city has to be healthy, it is critically important to the health of the entire city. It is hard for the rest of the city to be healthy if the heart of the city is unhealthy. Thus, I am happy to see the continued renaissance of redevelopment on Main Street and the Creative Corridor. Main Street is back!,” Stodola said.
