Fayetteville police respond to bomb threat at Federal Building

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA) – Fayetteville police responded to a report of a bomb threat in downtown Fayetteville on Tuesday.

According to Sergeant Tony Murphy, the call came from a third party at 11:44 a.m. in reference to a bomb threat at 35 E. Mountain, which is the city’s Federal Building.

Murphy said police were sweeping the building inside and out with explosive detecting dogs as a precautionary action. 

The all clear was given about two hours later.

Fayetteville Public Schools had restricted outside activities due to the bomb threat and later lifted the order.

The following letter was sent to all FPS families when outside activities were restricted:
“Dear FPS Families,

We have been notified of a bomb threat that was made against the John Paul Hammerschmidt Federal Building in downtown Fayetteville this morning. As a precaution, we are restricting outside activities at all FPS schools until further notice. The regular school day will continue as normal, just with no outside activities. 

We will keep you informed of this situation. The safety of our students and staff will always be our #1 concern.”
