LITTLE ROCK, AR – Snow and sleet fell Sunday afternoon and evening over a wide part of western and central Arkansas.
Preliminary winter storm reports show Dardanelle in Yell County and Fort Smith in Sebastian County recorded the most snow with an estimated two inches on the ground by Sunday night.
In the Conway area, 1.5 inches of snow was reported, along with some sleet. One inch of snow was reported in Russellville. In Perry (Perry County) there snow and sleet measuring 1.5 inches was on the ground by around 7 p.m. Sunday. In Danville (Yell County), an estimated 1 inch of snow fell, along with some sleet.
Smaller amounts of snow were reported in Conway County at Morrilton (0.8 inches) and Hattieville (0.6 inches). Some sleet was also reported at Morrilton. In Greenwood (Sebastian County) at least a half inch of snow fell.
Sleet was the wintry precipitation that fell in North Pulaski County and Lonoke County. Three miles west of Gravel Ridge a National Weather Service employee measured 1.1 inches of sleet. In Cabot there was a report of 1.5 inches of sleet.
More sleet and snow is in the forecast for Arkansas Monday.
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 6 p.m. for central and southern Arkansas with light snow expected to develop late this morning and continue through the afternoon hours as another storm system sweeps moves in.
Accumulations of one to two inches of snow will be possible over the central and western portions of Arkansas. Amounts of two to three inches will be possible within an area from Danville to Hot Springs to Glenwood to Mena. Over three inches are possible in the higher elevations of the Ouachita Mountains.
For extreme south Arkansas another storm system is expected to move through starting late this morning and continuing through early evening before ending bringing sleet occasionally mixed with snow. The precipitation will be primarily sleet before ending as a period of snow. Accumulations of an inch or two of sleet and snow will be possible.
