PULASKI COUNTY, AR – A Jacksonville man has been arrested after refusing to pull over for a traffic stop in a pursuit that didn’t end until he reached his own driveway.

It started Wednesday around 11:55 p.m. on Highway 161 at Interstate 440 near Shadrick Road.

According to an incident report from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), Keith Lamont Stewart, 49, kept driving when deputies tried to stop his 2003 Dodge pickup.

He’s charged with speeding, fleeing, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), tampering with physical evidence, DWI, and DWI refusal to submit to a breath test.

The pursuit began when Stewart ran a stop sign, according to the PCSO report, and kept going even after a second patrol car joined the pursuit.

Stewart reportedly kept driving from Hwy. 161 to I-440 and on to Hwy. 67/167, where he took the Air Base Exit, then an access road and continued on to his home on Latigo Trail.

Not far from his home, deputies say Stewart tossed a small plastic baggie from the driver’s side window. A K-9 from the Jacksonville Police Department later found the bag, which contained suspected cocaine.

Stewart was taken into custody as he got out of his truck in his driveway.

The report described him as being unsteady on his feet, having red eyes, slurred speech and smelling of intoxicants.

The PCSO says Stewart was driving on a suspended license.

He was jailed on $19,000 bond and given a March court date.
