MARIANNA, AR – An investigation leads the Marianna Police Department to arrest a local man and his girlfriend on animal cruelty and drug charges.
According to Detective Alvin Honeycutt, Marianna Police were serving a search warrant on David Carter’s home around 5:30 a.m. Friday morning as part of an ongoing drug investigation.
Once on the property, the officers discovered about 20 dogs, including 11 Pit bulls and 8 pit bull puppies.
According to Honeycutt, there was circumstantial evidence leading police to believe the dogs may be undergoing training to fight.
The animals, Honeycutt said, also showed signs of ribs showing and other health issues, resulting in 10 misdemeanor animal cruelty counts for Carter and 1 count for his girlfriend Marilyn Florence.
Carter was also arrested on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) with intent to deliver.
The animals are currently being checked out by a veterinarian, Honeycutt said.
