HOT SPRINGS, AR – A volunteer firefighter run over by an SUV shares his side of the story with law enforcement for the first time Wednesday (7/22).
The Garland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident from June 23, while the Lake Hamilton Volunteer Firefighter recovers from severe injuries.
“She ran me completely over,” Terrance Weever explained. “The front tire rolled over my head and another tire rolled over my chest.”
The impact mangled his teeth, a surgeon had to repair injuries on his face, and Weever remains in a neckbrace with fractured vertebrae.
Scarring on his arms and back remind him of the injuries seen in pictures from shortly after the accident.
The Lake Hamilton Volunteer Firefighter says that night a woman in his neighborhood along Paulleo Lane had taken a knife to several car tires and drove over something electrical which sent sparks flying.
Weever said he ran over to try and make sure the neighborhood didn’t burn down but that’s when he says he was hit by the woman.
It’s the same story he shared with law enforcement.
“I just want her to realize she can’t do this to somebody else,” Weever said.
His wife, Chastity, saw the whole thing happen.
“I watched it all,” remembered Chastity. “I watched that tire go over him. I watched him being [sic] underneath the vehicle. I watched the back tire go back over him.”
The 30-year-old has seen his fair share of danger from fighting fires to seeking out roadside bombs in Afghanistan and finding himself in the middle of explosions.
He says nothing compares to this.
“[I] Think this was more traumatic than that was.”
And the injury has impacted him in more ways than one.
He added, “I’m very independent and this has got me down and I don’t like it.”
While asking for help with anything is the last thing he wanted to do, there are several Facebook pages and websites set up to support him all under his name.
The Garland County Sheriff’s Office named Tara Williams as the driver of the car. She faces two counts of battery and two counts of criminal mischief.
