LITTLE ROCK, AR – Candidates for governor are talking jobs and opportunities in the Natural State. Democratic candidate Mike Ross announced a new plan for equal pay for women in the workplace.

His ‘Fair Pay for Equal Work’ calls for an annual report showing pay equity for progress in the state.

“I want my daughter, I want your daughter to have the same opportunities to succeed as our sons do. We’ll also pursue public-private partnerships that help train women and girls in Arkansas in pay negotiations and how to better recognize disparities in the work place,” said Ross.

Ross says if he’s in office, his initiative will push the Natural State in a better direction. But his republican opponent, Asa Hutchinson, says the plan is far fetched.

“It looks like it’s very aspirational. This is something that we should do, rather than concrete ideas and you’ve got to be careful not to burden employers with new rules and regulations. But just to make sure we enforce the ones that we have that provides for equal treatment,” said Hutchinson.

According to the latest poll from Talk Business and Politics, Hutchinson is leading Ross among male voters by 48.5 to 39 percent, and has a one point lead among female voters of 44 to 43 percent.
