CABOT, AR – A local woman is facing a string of charges after police say she tried to get away following a shoplifting incident at a Walmart store.
Ashley Michelle Leslie, 28, faces charges that include shoplifting, controlled substances and fleeing, in addition to numerous traffic violations.
It happened Tuesday around 1 p.m. after the Cabot Police Department (CPD) received a report of a shoplifter who left the local Walmart in an older model Mustang convertible.
Deputies with the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) who were in the area spotted the Mustang heading south on Rockwood Dr., at which time the Mustang turned around and headed north on Rockwood at a high rate of speed.
The deputies followed the Mustang in a chase that was joined by CPD Officers. The Mustang continued north on Rockwood, crossed Main St. and continued on North Rockwood Drive. The vehicle again turned around and headed south on North Rockwood. The LCSO says deputies saw the woman driving the car throw out two plastic bags. The vehicle then turned onto Main St. and headed east towards the intersection of Main St. and Highway 367.
At the intersection next to Cabot Police Department headquarters, the Mustang hit another vehicle, which in turn struck a third vehicle.
The LCSO says Leslie was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital. There’s no word on her condition. The others involved in the accident suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
Investigators found the two plastic bags on North Rockwood Dr. which reportedly contained an estimated 7 grams of methamphetamine in the form of “ice”.
Deputies say Leslie, who is currently on parole, also had outstanding arrest warrants from the Arkansas Board of Parole and the LCSO for Failure to Appear.
