LITTLE ROCK, AR – Two candidates running for congress in Arkansas 2nd district hope new television advertisements increase their awareness with voters next month.
Colonel Conrad Reynolds and French Hill both released ads hours apart on Friday for their respective campaigns.
Rebecca Glazier in the department of political science at UALR reviewed both advertisements Tuesday.
“A lot of it is about name recognition, that these candidates are introducing themselves to the voters,” Glazier says. “Both candidates are really trying to appeal to the base, they’re just appealing to different segments.”
Glazier says the Hill ad emphasizes fiscal conservatism while the Reynolds ad leans heavier on his military service and homeland security issues.
State representative Ann Clemmer, R-Benton, is also running for the GOP nomination on May 20. It is unclear if the three-term legislator will release a television ad ahead of the primary.
All three are looking to succeed congressman Tim Griffin, R-Arkansas, who is seeking the Lieutenant Governor nomination.
Former North Little Rock mayor Patrick Hays is running unopposed for the Democrat nomination in the 2nd district and will meet either Clemmer, Hill or Reynolds in the general election in November.
