LITTLE ROCK, AR – The fire danger remains elevated across Arkansas as dry weather takes hold of the state.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock says the danger will be increased through the end of the week.
FOX16 Meteorologist Greg Dee says low humidity and an increasing breeze will lead to higher fire danger this afternoon.
The Arkansas Forestry Commission’s (AFC) wildfire danger map shows the entire state is under a moderate danger for fires.
The AFC reminds everyone that combustible (or flammable) fuels like dead leaves and pine needles cause most wildfire problems, especially now while the ground is covered with them. Home and property owners are urged to work to clear the debris away from deck areas and fire rings for added safety.
As of Monday afternoon, burn bans were in place for the following counties: Faulkner, Franklin, Garland, Independence, Perry, Stone and Van Buren.
Over the weekend, the NWS cited windy conditions as the reason for the elevated wildfire danger in the state and said that wildfires had been reported in Arkansas every day for the past several days.
