LITTLE ROCK, AR — With temperatures going below freezing, a Little Rock organization opened their doors as a warming center for those with no heat or for people living on the streets.
The Arkansas Dream Center received plenty of help with other things too.
Churches and local organizations donated everything from kids jackets to warm items for men and women.
For hours, volunteers sorted through all the clothing donated during the day.
Then, as people came by, they could take what they needed.
And folks could also sleep in the warming center tonight.
The well-heated room is set up with cots and blankets.
Those who came in, received hot meals and warm drinks too.
Arkansas Dream Center employees expect more than 100 people to stay at the warming center, and there’s plenty of space for everyone.
With the wind chill, it’s just not safe to sleep outside, so the warming center will stay open — at least — through Tuesday.
Drew Davis, with the Arkansas Dream Center, said, “Anyone who’s cold out there, if they’re in a home without heat or living on the streets, it doesn’t matter to us. Knock on our door and they’re getting in.”
The Arkansas Dream Center is asking for donations of warm sleeping bags, because eventually people are going to have to go back out in the cold weather.
You can drop off your donations at the Arkansas Dream Center on West Daisy Gatson Bates Drive in Little Rock.
