FORT SMITH — An inmate who was mistakenly released Dec. 19 from the Sebastian County Detention Center has been captured, according to officials.
Charles Lamont Thompson, 41, was arrested in Fort Smith Monday afternoon and was returned to jail. Sheriffs found Thompson with a female companion, 27-year-old Birdie Embry.
Both were arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a felony. Thompson is currently awaiting transport to the Arkansas Department of Corrections and has outstanding warrants out of Sequoyah County, Okla.
Embry is also facing a felony charge of hindering apprehension.

FORT SMITH, AR — The Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is looking for a jail inmate who was released by mistake.
It happened when an inmate with the common last name of Thompson was due to be released from the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center (SCADC). Another inmate by the name of Charles Lamont Thompson with similar body type and features was brought to the front and released in error.
The SCSO says the inmates are cousins and resemble each other.
Thompson, 41, (see photo) is described as 6’4” tall and weighs about 190 pounds.
He left the facility in the other Thompson’s clothing which is described as a dark gray hoodie and a green toboggan cap. Thompson was in the SCADC for Domestic Battery, 3rd degree; Absconding; Parole Violation; Warrants out of Sequoyah County (OK); an Arkansas Department of Corrections Hold; and Failure to Comply with Court Ordered Registration.
Thompson has family in Fort Smith and the surrounding area. He is known to frequent the motels along Towson Avenue. Thompson may be accompanied by a female companion.
Deputies and assisting agencies have been following multiple leads, but Thompson remains at large.
