LITTLE ROCK, AR — Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington announced on Wednesday that a Trumann police officer was justified in an Oct. 22 shooting.
According to Ellington’s findings, Trumann Police Lt. Gary Henry was justified in shooting 22-year-old Jacob Brown of Trumann.
During the foot pursuit of Brown, officers say he was told several times to drop his weapon.
Brown responded, “Give me a second!” Give me a minute!”
After ordering Brown again to drop his weapon, Brown brought his pistol up toward the officers. At that point, Henry fired three shots and struck Brown, knocking him down.
Once the threat was eliminated, life-saving measures were taken. Brown survived the shooting.
“This is certainly an unfortunate event, but the actions of Jacob Brown that day threatened the lives of law enforcement officers,” Ellington said. “My review concludes that Lt. Henry was justified in using deadly force to defend himself and Detective Jared Cook from Mr. Brown and his gun, and that no further review of this matter is necessary.”
