LITTLE ROCK, AR — Day four of the federal shutdown in Washington D.C., and there’s still no sign of relief for employees in Arkansas.
As we’ve seen all week, furloughs are spread throughout the federal government across the country, but there are also a large amount of Arkansas State employees who are affected.
The latest numbers from the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) remained static Friday, with total furloughs hovering around 670 state employees, but that number does not include any one employee with cutback hours.
DFA is now saying those will change after the first full pay period this month.
“At that point, we will probably start to see a dramatic increase in furloughs in state agencies if the federal government shutdown extends that long,” DFA’s Brandon Sharp says.
If the shutdown does continue, the amount of state workers at home will rise into the thousands, and it appears the state office of Social Security will likely be hit next if no deal is reached in D.C.
