DREW COUNTY, AR — Hundreds of acres of land in Drew County have been burned by a fire that began this afternoon, officials say.
Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober gave a rough estimate of 600 acres.
The only property affected was one wooden shed near a home, though several homes had to be evacuated.
Crews from outside of Drew County have been sent home.
An Arkansas Forestry Commission crew will work through the night to place a fire line all the way around the fire, which the sheriff says will be less intense during nightfall.
As of 8:30 p.m., Highway 278 West was reopened.
A tanker plane is dropping water and spotter plane is trying to find the direction the fire is heading.
We have a crew at the scene and will provide more information as it becomes available.
