LITTLE ROCK, AR — A Little Rock school went on lock down Thursday after a student says there was a gun on campus.
This happened just a day after police arrested a man for shooting a gun near the same school.
At Dunbar Middle School, the day got off to a good start until a student claimed to have hidden a gun somewhere on campus.
“The security knocked on everybody’s door asking to scan everybody,” student Ahmaud Cook said.
Students say lockers were also searched as the school went on lock down.
But in the end, the gun was never found.
Two students who graduated from Dunbar say the whole school environment changed over the years.
They say students don’t have a problem bringing weapons to class anymore.
“And you can say, ‘I’m going to expel you,’ but half the kids don’t even care about school,” Mariah Sheard said. “They don’t care if you expel them anyway.”
While students may accept that, parents have not.
Erica Romero’s child goes to Dunbar.
After hearing about a man shooting off a gun near campus Wednesday night and another gun scare Thursday, she feels more security is needed.
“But now I’m scared with my son in the school and I don’t know what happened today,” Romero said.
No one was hurt in these incidents, but the fear of what “could have been” is still very fresh in the minds of parents.
Police arrested the man who shot the gun off near Dunbar on Wednesday night.
He faces several charges including aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
School administrators didn’t say if the student in question will receive any type of punishment.
