The Historic Jeffery Cemetery of Mt. Olive Arkansas was severely damaged in the EF-2 tornado that touched down there this week.
The grave of a war hero from the war of 1812, Jehoiada Jeffery (1790-1846) was broken, among others by fallen trees.
The Jeffery cemetery of Mt. Olive was added to the National Register of Historic places on Nov. 5, 1999.
The descendants of Jehoiada Jeffery are mobilizing to assess the damage.
The Arkansas Department of Corrections has offered their help in clearing the cemetery from debris and fallen trees.
The date of the D.O.C. cleanup has not yet been announced.
The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down in the area Wednesday afternoon.
