NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Out with the old, but it’s not the end for a popular reading spot in North Little Rock’s Argenta District.
A $2.8 million renovation kicked off Tuesday for a new branch library.
The Laman library branch in Argenta,is a favorite past time for FloyDean Oliver and her two grandchildren.
“Argenta and Layman are both the same to me. I’ve been coming for over 10 years,” said Oliver.
Some of her grandson Jonathan’s favorites, “Dr. Suess books, chapter books and picture books.”
All found in this quaint little library, with only enough room for a table of six and about a half dozen or so computers.
Jeff Baskin, Executive Director of the William F. Casey Laman Public Library System says, now there’s a new chapter, the first wall is knocked down to begin renovations to the old north little rock post office,
for the new Argenta library.
“It is wonderful, the present branch which was an experiment six years ago, is about a block north and it was so popular in this area, we decided we needed a bigger building,” said Baskin.
That will house a new art studio, where Smithsonian Art Exhibits can now be on display, also an auditorium for children and adult programs and of course, “Lots of books,” added Baskin.
So while the old library will have its final chapter, this is not the end.
“No certainly not the end, it’s definitely growing and growing, expanding and expanding,” said Oliver.
