LITTLE ROCK, AR — The chairman of the ballot question committee Arkansans for Medical Cannabis has filed a writ petition against Attorney General Dustin McDaniel.

Robert Reed says his group filed an initiative request to be placed on the 2014 ballot.

On Monday, McDaniel rejected the proposed ballot and title, saying there were several errors.

But Reed says the proposal had almost the exact same language as bills that were approved by the state legislature back in 1999.

So on Thursday, Reed filed a writ petition with the Pulaski County Circuit Court, which means he wants to secure a speedy review.

Reed says he believes McDaniel’s denial of the proposal shows that when it comes to making laws, the state holds its citizens to a much higher standard than that of its elected officials.
