NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR – The North Little Rock Police Department is getting set to honor its retiring police chief in a special ceremony on Thursday.
Chief Danny Bradley will retire on March 1st after leading the department for the past 12 years.
Bradley’s retirement ceremony will be held at the Patrick Henry Hays Center tomorrow afternoon at one o’clock.
Chief Bradley is currently the longest standing Police Chief at the North Little Rock Police Department.
Bradley is moving on to a new job as Chief of Staff for new North Little Rock Mayor Joe Smith.
Chief Bradley’s Biography:
Danny Bradley has served as chief of the North Little Rock Police Department since January 2001. Prior service includes six years as chief deputy of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and, before that, twenty-one years with the North Little Rock Police Department where he worked his way from cadet to captain. He was instrumental in bringing about organizational change to incorporate the principles of community policing in both departments.
Chief Bradley has worked on a wide range of police issues in Arkansas. He was key in establishing the first organized police supervision and management training in Arkansas that evolved into the Criminal Justice Institute which is part of the University of Arkansas system. He instructed in that program as well as having served as adjunct faculty for the Criminal Justice Department of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
He has served on a number of boards and commissions including the Arkansas Bio-terrorism Advisory Committee, the original Arkansas Wireless Information Network commission, the Arkansas Police Corp Advisory Group, the North Little Rock Boys and Girls Club board of directors, and the Family Service Agency board of directors.
His current service includes the Arkansas Crime Information Center board of supervisors, the Technical and Adult Education Advisory Committee for Black River Technical College and the Governor’s working group on jail and prison overcrowding. In addition, he is frequently called on to participate in problem-solving groups addressing various law enforcement issues.
Chief Bradley serves a leadership role with the Arkansas Association of Chiefs of Police having served five years on the Executive Board—three consecutive years as president. Under his leadership the organization achieved sound financial footing for the first time ever giving the association the resources to provide training and equipment to police departments in Arkansas and to provide support for chiefs of police in the State. He currently chairs the Legislative Committee where he has helped shape legislation that impacts policing and public safety in Arkansas.
He is a member of the Police Executive Research Forum and the International Association of Chiefs of Police where he serves on the Community Policing and the Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Committees. Through his membership in the Fight Crime-Invest in Kids organization, he advocates at the state and federal level for Pre-K education and other issues to prevent delinquency and crime.
He holds the Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice degree and the Master of Public Administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Chief Bradley has accepted a position as Chief of Staff for the City of North Little Rock under the Command of the Mayor.
