LITTLE ROCK, AR – Thousands of people in Arkansas are still without power. Many Arkansans are cleaning up storm debris and making repairs after strong storms swept through the State Friday night and early Saturday morning.
Entergy reports more than 17,000 customers still without power as of 2:00pm, Saturday. At one point more than 60,000 customers were without electricity. The largest number of power outages are reported in Pulaski and Independence Counties.
High winds downed power lines with falling limbs and trees in many areas of Arkansas. Power company crews are working through the weekend to restore service to everyone as quickly as possible.
Those high winds also caused hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage at the Batesville Regional Airport in Independence County. Roofs were ripped from multiple hangars and at least one twin engine plane was crushed. Power is still out there with generators providing electricity to keep essential services going. The airport will be open for daylight operations only, until power is restored.
So far, there are no reports of serious injuries as a result of the storms.
