STUTTGART, AR – Customers say business is back to usual at the A-Z Food Mart in Stuttgart after a robbery turned into a deadly shooting Friday night.
Karen Mayall lives near the store and says nothing like this ever happens in town, and many customers had no idea of the chaos Friday night. “A lot of stuff like that doesn’t happen here. It’s usually really calm, and a nice neighborhood, so for this to go down, it kind of scared me at first.”
Arkansas State Police are still investigating the robbery that turned deadly, shocking many neighbors like John Noble. “I’ve been to the penitentiary 13 times, but I ain’t never did stuff like this.”
Police say two teenagers entered the food mart firing shots into the ceiling, demanding money. Police say one of the teens shot one of the clerks. Then another clerk wrestled the gun away from the teen, shooting both of the suspects.
Police say one teen is dead, and Mayall says her heart goes out to all the families involved. “I hope the families are ok, and I’m sorry to hear about everything. I just pray for them.”
Police say the other teenager was treated at the hospital and taken into custody. So far the teen’s names have not been released.
No information is available about the clerk, or the extent of his injuries.
