ALBION, AR – Firefighters discovered a body while fighting a house fire in White County. The victim is believed to be the 85-year-old owner of the house.

White County deputies were called to the fire at 408 Clay Road at 6:30am Thursday where the Albion Fire Department was already battling the blaze and discovered the body, according to Chief Deputy Jeremy Clark.

Mae Robertson lived alone in the home, according to family members, and the body is believed to be hers. The body has been sent to the White County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing but preliminary findings indicate that the fire was started by a lightning strike on the house.

Dan Robertson, Mae’s son, tells Fox16 that his brother woke him up around 5:30am and told him their mother’s house was on fire.

“We got down there and kicked the door in, tried to go in, it was too hot,” said Robertson. “We tried to break a window, go in, it was too hot that way and then we just had to stand in the back and watch.”

Family members say Mae was always happy. Now, they’re trying to follow in her footsteps, despite their loss.

“I know she’s happy,” said great granddaughter Sadi Robertson. “It’s a better place in heaven.”
