CONWAY, AR – Sheriff’s deputies say a man who registered almost twice the legal blood alcohol limit ran over a pedestrian, then crashed his truck into the victim’s house. Investigators say it all happened just before 8:00am Saturday morning.
Major Andy Shock with the Faulkner County Sheriff’s office says 48 year old Allan Shirley of Conway was airlifted from the scene with multiple serious injuries but is expected to survive. Investigators say Shirley was walking along Roden Mill Road just outside Conway, when he saw an eastbound Toyota pickup headed his direction.
Major Shock says Allan Shirley went into the ditch attempting to get out of the way of the oncoming truck, but the truck swerved into the ditch, too, hitting the man. The vehicle continued on down the road about 300 feet and crashed into Shirley’s house, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage.
Sheila Tittle, a close friend of Shirley, tells FOX16 News her friend had little time to react.
“He went one way because he thought the truck was going that way. And the truck lost control again. He said he knew he wasn’t going to be able to get out of the way the second time,” Tittle says.
The driver of the pickup, 24 year old Damon Trey Warbritton of Conway was arrest on charges of Driving While Intoxicated first offense and reckless driving. Major Shock says Warbritton’s blood alcohol level was .15, almost twice the legal limit of .08. More charges are possible.
Friends of Allan Shirley tell us he remains in UAMS in Little Rock with multiple broken bones and internal injuries.
