MAUMELLE, AR — Monday morning, Maumelle city workers started wetting the grass in preparation of Wednesday’s fireworks show.

“We are actually using a pump to pump lake water out and not use any of the city water. We just want to use the resource that we have to water it down and get it moist,” said Parks and Recreations Director Phillip Raborn.

Because of the dry weather, city leaders thought about cancelling the show, but didn’t.

“We got a special permit so we can do our show explaining the precautions to make it safe,” said Raborn.

The permit was approved and parents like Reggie Richardson are pleased because calling off fireworks would have disappointed his two kids.

“We actually pulled up to the park and saw the tents out and got pretty excited” said Richardson.

Richardson says a Fourth of July without fireworks doesn’t seem right.

“You can’t have one without the other. But I also want to be safe too because of the burn ban,” said Richardson
