NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR — Dareen Campbell got a master’s of business administration degree Saturday, but he also learned an important life lesson.
“I had always wanted to open my own music store, because I am a musician as well. I play drums. That’s always been a long term goal. So that is something that has been in the works mentally,” said Campbell.
But just a few years ago, Dareen dropped out of college. He just got tired of school.
His parents were furious and required him to get back in school.
“Being a family man and believing discipline and setting examples through walking and talking, the end result is where we are now,” said Otis Campbell.
Dareen is one of 300 University of Phoenix graduates that walked across the stage at Verizon Arena. He says the degree means a lot to his parents and wife.
“I’m a proud wife. He wouldn’t do it in the beginning, but I am glad he did it. I am proud of him,” said Takecia Campbell.
Dareen is now looking to the future because of tough love from dad.
“I encourage parents to listen to that biblical scripture, which is train up a child in a way he should go and when he gets old, he will remain on that path,” said O. Campbell.
