LITTLE ROCK, AR — Little Rock police officer Roger Snook knows how to fight crime. But now he can add fashion designer to his resume.
This morning, Snook and his colleagues gathered at Target on University Avenue for the annual “Shop with a Cop” program. It helps kids in Little Rock buy presents for Christmas. Snook helped Kayla Muhammad with her wish list.
“I expected her to come out and say, I want toys, I want toys. The first thing she says, I want some boots,” said Snook jokingly.
Snook says his efforts are worth it because little Kayla gets what she wants.
“I got skinny jeans and a shirt to match it and some boots,” said Muhammad.
It’s the same story for Sgt. Christopher Scott. He sees the program as a way to connect with the community.
“Contacts with law enforcement are often negative. This at least gives us an opportunity to have positive contact,” said Scott.
Positive describes Scott’s adopted child for the day. Nyrone fitzgerald chose presents for more people than just himself.
“(I got) an envelope card for my mom. And a wrestling toy for me and my little brother,” said Fitzgerald.
The kids who participated are students in Little Rock School Districts Homeless Education Program and the Catholic Diocese Hispanic Ministry.
