Jeff Baskin is Chief Meteorologist for FOX16 News.
Baskin joined the FOX16 team in January of 2009, bringing more than 12 years of experience forecasting all types of severe weather, including hurricanes, tornadoes, and snow and ice storms.
Prior to FOX16, Baskin was an on air meteorologist at WFOR in Miami, where he helped Floridians weather a very active 2008 hurricane Season. Before that, Baskin was chief meteorologist at KOIN in rainy Portland, Oregon and weekend meteorologist at WVUE in New Orleans.
It was in New Orleans where Jeff gained much of his experience with severe weather, forecasting for 6 years along the Gulf Coast, including the devastating 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons. Baskin was working in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast, destroying the station where he worked, and inundating the neighborhood where he lived with flood water. During his time in New Orleans, Baskin was awarded “Best Weathercast in New Orleans” twice by the New Orleans Press Club.
Jeff is originally from Upstate New York, and graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY with a degree in meteorology. He began his career in Utica, New York as a meteorologist and general assignment reporter. In a place that averaged 90 inches of snow per year, he forecasted more than his fair share of major snow and ice storms.
Jeff likes to get out into the community to educate people about weather. He has done countless school talks as well as emergency preparedness seminars. He has also been active in fundraising for The March of Dimes.
In his spare time, Jeff likes doing anything that’s outside in the sun!
