Homicide Investigation Rattles Small Pike County Town

DELIGHT, AR – A community is in shock after a Pike County man is arrested, accused of killing his own brother.

The murder happened in Delight, which is 20 miles east of  Murfreesboro, the county seat.

In the town where everyone seems to know everyone, it’s no surprise the news of the Sheriff’s Office report of a man taking the life of his brother didn’t take long to spread.

The concern for the town now: this having happened to a mother and father who close family friends say are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.

One particular seat in the corner of McKnight’s Grocery in Delight stayed empty Tuesday (4/30).

“It’d been two or three days since Mr. Doudle been down here,” explained store co-owner, Rheta McKnight.

She says when Gerald Doudle doesn’t show up with the rest of the guys every day it’s evident.  It’s something you’d begin to notice when that person sits in the same chair every time.

Tuesday the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and close family friends confirmed that  just down the road from the store, one of Gerald Doudle’s sons was shot and killed by another son inside Doudle’s home.

Speculation spread as to why but that’s not something the McKnights cared to share.

McKnight remarked, “That’s one thing Mack and I… We don’t repeat anything we heard.”

The news though has weighed down the heavy hearts of everyone that knows the family and knows the person who usually claims the empty seat in the corner of McKnight’s Grocery every day.

“We’ve just always been so close to them and seen them every day and my heart just goes out to them,” McKnight added. “You just can’t imagine how they feel.”

Detective Clark Kinzler of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office confirms a family argument likely started the fight that led to one brother shooting the other. He says alcohol and/or drugs may have played a role.

Formal charges of 1st Degree Murder are expected to be filed against Danny Doudle Wednesday (5/1) morning.
