FULTON, AR – Police are investigating an unusual incident that left a woman shot in the head as she drove on Interstate 30. Investigators say the shooting happened around 11:00pm.

Arkansas State Police responded to a shooting call at the 21 mile marker of east bound Interstate 30, at 11:10p Friday night. When they arrived they found a driver, 33 year old Michele Alford of Hector with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the cheek and nose. She was airlifted to UAMS in Little Rock for treatment. Three other people in the car escaped without injury.

15 year old Ryan Slonaker of Hector, the son of the victim, told investigators he had been taken to Texarkana for custody exchange. Slonaker told police he did not see anyone in front of or behind them as they traveled east bound on Interstate 30, but then a dark blue or gray pick-up possibly an older model GMC extended cab, without its lights on pulled up beside them. He heard a pop and boom, and his mother began to slow and pull over. The truck initially slowed but then fled away at high speed.

The suspect or suspects remain at large.
