UPDATE:
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on the body of a man found shot in the head near Lake Conway.
A passerby saw the man laying alongside the road and called 911 Friday night.
Detectives and the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Department say the victim still has not been identified.
They expect to find out more after Monday’s autopsy.
So far, no arrests have been made in this case.
FAULKNER COUNTY, AR — The body of a mystery man is found alongside the road near Lake Conway.
Tonight, detectives seem to have more questions than they do answers.
It’s the second homicide inside Faulkner County this week alone.
The other one happened early Tuesday morning in Conway.
Faulkner County Sheriff’s investigators are trying to identify the man found shot and left for dead in the 100 block of Waterfront Cove on Friday night.
People living in the area call it a quiet, friendly neighborhood.
Bill Bishop said, “And I wave at the neighbors and they wave at me.”
But Friday night, the unexpected happened.
Joaquin Urteaga showed us where he found the body of a man shot in the head who was, at the time, still breathing.
Returning from the store, Urteaga says he saw the man on the side of the road.
He said, “The first thing I did was call 911.”
He watched as a helicopter rushed the victim to the hospital, hopeful he would survive, disappointed that he didn’t.
Urteaga planned on visiting him in the hospital.
Investigators don’t know who the victim is or why he was killed, leaving people in the quiet neighborhood more on edge tonight.
Urteaga said, “It was scary.”
Bishop said, “I’m sure it’s isolated, but it might make you a little more cautious.”
Once an autopsy is performed, investigators may know a little more about what happened.
If you know anything, call the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Department at 501-450-4914.
