Man Shoots at Police in Hot Springs

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – A local man is jailed on a Terroristic Threatening charge after a Monday night standoff with police.

The Hot Springs Police Department (HSPD) says the ordeal began shortly before 7:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Central Ave. at Timbercrest Mobile Home Park.

Officers were called to the scene on a report that a man was threatening his neighbors.

When police arrived, they spoke to the suspect, identified as John David Barron, 57. The HSPD says Barron became disorderly with officers, went back to his home and came out armed with a rifle and pistol.

Police say Barron made several threats to shoot officers and continued to go in and out of his house. At that point, the SWAT team and crisis negotiators were called to the incident after which Barron reportedly fired several shots from inside the house. When Barron again walked outside the house towards officers, SWAT then fired a non-lethal round that struck him. A K-9 was also deployed and after a brief struggle, Barron was taken into custody.

The HSPD says Barron had to be taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He is being held at the Garland County Detention Center on $100,000 bond and has a July 24 court date.
