SEARCY, AR — Friends gathered together Sunday afternoon to remember a 24-year-old Harding University graduate student murdered on New Year’s Eve.
Her service was held at Fellowship Bible Church in Searcy.
Lauren Bump’s body was found in a San Antonio, Texas, park last month.
Police say a man stabbed her to death.
But this afternoon, people remembered how Lauren lived her life in this world and not the way she left it.
A slide show reflected the life of the young woman inside the church.
Photos showed Lauren and other classmates in the Physician Assistant program.
“Putting together the slide show and all those pictures was just a way to remember all those good times and to feel so blessed by the Lord that He would allow us to know Lauren,” her friend Rachel Fritsche said.
There were also pictures of her time in Guatemala, where she did missionary work.
Friends say Lauren loved life, but most importantly, they say she loved the Lord.
She wrote a blog called “LaBump” where she documented her Christian life and beliefs.
Friends read part of her blog during the service today.
Here’s part of that post in Lauren’s own words: “My grades, my schooling, my accomplishments contribute nothing to a truly successful life. Those are temporary things that will not have any value when my life on earth is over and I approach the Pearly Gates.”
The service ended with a candlelight vigil and a message from Lauren’s father, John.
“It’s not a beautiful smile, or this beautiful lady, it’s this beautiful God,” he said.
John Bump went on to thank everyone for their support and hugs.
“It was really neat doing the candlelight vigil because I felt like…I felt she was here, I really did,” Lauren’s friend Mary Capstick added.
San Antonio police arrested Christian Ivan Bautista last week in connection with Bump’s murder.
