Update (5:45 p.m.):
GRANT COUNTY, AR – A Grant County man is behind bars after authorities say he was involved in a standoff with multiple law enforcement agencies on Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier the Grant County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from the Arkansas State Police.
Sheriff’s deputies originaly told police that Donald C. Thomas Jr., 47, of the Clearwater Lake area east of Sheridan had contacted local authorities saying he intended to set fire to a home at 762 West Clearwater Lake Drive.
As sheriff’s deputies and local firemen arrived at the home they found the home burning. A short time later sheriff’s deputies said at least one gun shot was fired at them, according to a report.
The Arkansas State Police SWAT and Crisis Response Teams were dispatched to the area. By mid-afternoon negotiations were made with Thomas inside a nearby out-building on the residential property. Thomas refused to surrender to state or local authorities.
At 5 p.m. the State Police SWAT team fired tear gas into the out building causing Thomas to exit and was then taken into custody.
An investigation of the incident is continuing tonight and Thomas is currently being held at the Grant County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault.
The continuing investigation may result in additional charges.

GRANT COUNTY, AR – According to Arkansas State Police there is a tactical situation underway in Grant County near Sheridan.
Jefferson County and Grant County Sheriff’s offices along with State Police are all involved in the situation at a home in Clearwater Lake Estates off of Highway 270.
Police say there is one suspect involved. Authorities also say they are not allowing any traffic into Clearwater Lake Estates, and if you leave you cannot re-enter.
Police have not released any further details.
