Update: Texas Arrest for Pine Bluff Murder Suspect

Update (April 14):
PINE BLUFF, AR – A suspect in a Monday morning murder has been arrested in Texas.

The Pine Bluff Police Department (PBPD) says Chris Fletcher, 38, was taken into custody in Amarillo around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Police were able to find him by tracking Fletcher through bus records.

A wanted poster with Fletcher’s photo was emailed to the Amarillo Police Department (APD), which made the arrest after finding Fletcher in the local bus station. 

The APD told the PBPD that Fletcher lied about who he was and then tried to run away but was quickly caught and taken into custody.

PINE BLUFF, AR – Police are looking for Chris Fletcher, 38, after they say he shot and killed his girlfriend in front of her children.

The murder happened in the 700 Block of West 29th Street.

Police tell us when they got there around 6:50 a.m. Monday, Fletcher’s girlfriend, Laronda McElroy, 28, was lying in her neighbor’s front yard.

A 10-year-old was walking to his bus stop when he says he saw the man fire two shots, one in the leg and then one in the head while she was on the ground.

She was taken to the hospital but pronounced dead a few minutes later. Police say according to witnesses, McElroy had been in an altercation with her boyfriend.

Neighbors who witnessed the shooting say the victim’s children saw the whole thing as well.

Kalana Simmons explained, “I heard the gunshots so I opened the door, looked out, seen the man running this way and the lady was over there on the ground.”
