Buffalo River Search for Swimmer Enters 3rd Day


GRINDER’S FERRY, AR — The search for the swimmer who disappeared Thursday evening at Grinders Ferry on the Buffalo River is in its third day. 

The missing man is from Independence Missouri.

The river conditions Sunday morning finds the river high but dropping to degree sufficient to deploy dive teams. 

Operational plans are to utilize the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, Benton County,  and Searcy County dive teams and to significantly ramp up boat searches downstream of Grinder’s Ferry.

Incident Comment is being managed by Buffalo National River Search and Rescue.

Due to the increase in search operations the river is closed to recreational access between Tyler Bend and Shine Eye.

River access at Grinders Ferry remains closed at this time.

While other areas of the the river are open to recreation, visitors are strongly advised to exercise caution in those areas still experiencing high, fast, and turbid conditions.
