DECATUR, AR– A dad is facing felony charges after his 5-year-old son accidentally shot himself.
Lawrence Thompson was arrested Thursday on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, endangering the welfare of a minor and tampering with physical evidence.
Police Chief Terry Luker said Thompson was at home on Hill Street, with the special needs child when the shooting happened.
According to Luker, the injuries were accidental and self-inflicted with a hand revolver.
The boy was taken to Siloam Springs Hospital for injuries to the face and transported to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
He was later released.
Police say the child’s mother, Jessica Thompson, will also be facing a charge of endangering the welfare of a minor.
Thompson was booked into the Benton County Jail.
The boy along with two other children are now in Department of Human Services custody.
Both parents are awaiting a bond hearing.
