FORT SMITH, AR – A jail inmate has died behind bars in Sebastian County.
It happened Saturday afternoon at the Sebastian County Detention Center.
The Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) says around 2:30 p.m., deputies responded to a medical emergency call and began to perform CPR on Mike Casey, 41, of Fort Smith.
Paramedics arrived soon after and took the man to Sparks Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Both the SCSO and the Arkansas State Police are conducting investigations into Casey’s death.
The SCSO says Casey was being held at detention center on a hold from the Arkansas Department of Correction. He had been at the detention center since October 23.
