LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR – A Poinsett County woman is jailed on drug charges after being arrested in a traffic stop.
It happened Monday on County Road 749.
That’s where Sonya Cantrell, 33, was pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy for a traffic violation. When the woman was asked to present her driver’s license, she told the deputy she did not have it with her and then gave a fake name and birthdate, according to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).
The deputy tried to run the information given to him by Cantrell but no records were found under the name she gave them. When asked if she might be listed by another name, the LCSO says she stuck with the information she had given the deputy.
At this point, Cantrell was asked if she had anything illegal in the vehicle. After she gave consent for her vehicle to be searched, the LCSO says a baggie of meth and a glass pipe with burnt residue on it were found inside.
The woman was placed under arrest and taken to the Lawrence County Jail. Once at the jail Cantrell finally told officials what her real name and birthdate was. A check of her real name showed that her driver’s license was suspended and that she had drug related warrants in Cross County.
In Lawrence County, Cantrell is charged with possession of a controlled substance (meth), possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal impersonation, and driving on a suspended driver’s license.
