12 injured during Lonoke church bus crash

CONWAY COUNTY, AR – 12 people on the way to sing Christmas songs at a nursing home have been injured in a church bus crash, FOX16 has learned.

According to Larry Miller with the Petit Jean Country Headlight, a driver of the church bus for the Lonoke Missionary Baptist Church in Morrilton began to feel sick and dizzy while driving. The driver tried to pull over, but the bus went off a steep embankment near the Arkansas River Bridge on Highway 9 South, about two miles after the Arkansas River Bridge in Conway County.

Conway County Sheriff Mike Smith says two people with serious injuries have reportedly been air lifted to a hospital while an additional ten were transported by ambulance. The bus was headed to a nursing home where members planned to sing Christmas songs.

“Asking all people who believe in prayer to lift up my people!” Lonoke Missionary Baptist Church Pastor Craig Duncan said in a Facebook posting. “The Senior Saints had a bad bus wreck on the way to the Nursing Home Ministry. Information is still sketchy but med-flights are being used. Lift up in prayer!”

FOX16 will have more information on this story as it becomes available.
