LITTLE ROCK, AR — An army wife gave birth to her slain husband’s son Monday. Surprising the mother, the baby came on the father’s birthday.
Sergeant Jason Swindle died September 20 by enemy small arms fire in Afghanistan
His wife, Chelsey, delivered their son, Jason Hunter Daniel Swindle on December 3, which would have been the father’s 25th birthday.
Chelsey says she didn’t plan it that way and didn’t get any medical help to induce labor.
“I prayed about it. But there was no planning whatsoever. This baby had a mind of its own from the beginning,” said Chelsy,” It was all natural.”
In addition to sharing the same name and birthday, Chelsey says dad and baby also share bad habits.
“He already snores,” said Chelsey laughingly.
The baby came two weeks early and Chelsey says before her husband died, he joked about sharing a birthday with his newborn.
But she didn’t think it would happen.
Sergeant Swindle is from Cabot and graduated in 2006 from Cabot High, but his family is now living in Beebe.
He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.
Swindle served two tours of duty in Iraq.
The father lost his life at the age of 24.
