Doctors and nurses at St. Vincent Hospital and clinics are still seeing patients with depression.

This is a well-known mood disorder in which feelings of sadness, loss, anger, or frustration interfere with everyday life for weeks or longer.

The exact cause of depression is unknown, but could because of chemical changes in the brain.

Depression may be genetic and/or could be triggered by traumatic events.

Doctors say a lot of these cases seem to be triggered by people being alone for the holidays.

Call 911 or other emergency services if you think you cannot keep from harming yourself or another person

Doctors are also seeing a lot of people coming in with the stomach flu.

It’s the second most common illness in America and it is an inflammation of the intestinal lining because of a parasite, virus, or bacteria.

You can get it from contaminated food or water or from other people.

Symptoms include stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting, headache, and fever.

Call a doctor if you become confused, lightheaded, or have a fever over 101 degrees.

Lastly, doctors are seeing a lot of ear infections

It’s usually a bacterial or viral infection of the middle ear causing a buildup of fluids and inflammation.

Ear infections can clear up on their own, so treatment begins with managing the pain with over the counter pain medication and monitoring the problem.

Symptoms include pain in the ear, a sore throat, ear drainage, and loss of hearing.

See a doctor if you see any discharge, the pain is very severe, or if your child has it.
