A new drug may soon bring hope to patients suffering from an embarrassing form of hair loss.
Alopecia areata is a condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks hair follicles and causes hair to fall out in large patches.
After experiments with mice were successful, the drug was tested on three patients with moderate to severe forms of the disease.
All three experienced total hair regrowth within four to five months of starting treatment.
In other health news, a new study reveals the HPV vaccine remains effective for at least eight years.
Researchers followed boys and girls who got the HPV vaccine between nine and 15 years old.
After eight years, they still had the HPV antibodies, had no adverse effects from the vaccine, and most had not developed HPV related disease.
However, HPV vaccination rates are only 33% and more than 4,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year.
