LITTLE ROCK, AR – A half-day after Sunday’s tornado outbreak in central Arkansas, some early numbers are beginning to reveal its devastation.
As of 11:30 Monday morning, the death toll stood at 16. Ten of those were in Faulkner County, five in Pulaski County and one in White County at El Paso. Of the 10 in Faulkner County, 9 are believed to have occurred on Naylor Rd. on the east side of Vilonia.
Governor Mike Beebe has issued state disaster declarations for 3 counties (Faulkner, Pulaski and White).
Homes damaged or destroyed: Vilonia (at least 60), Roland (about 11 damaged).
Conway Regional Medical Center reports treating about 100 storm victims. Nine patients have been admitted to the medical center; another 10 patients were transferred to Little Rock hospitals.
Sunday storm reports from the National Weather Service noted tornadoes in 5 counties (Faulkner, Pulaski, White, Independence and Jackson). A funnel cloud was also reported in Scott County.
According to Lt. Carl Minden with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s office there have been three confirmed deaths along the 4000 block of Deer Drive on the Western edge of Pulaski County. Also, significant homes damaged, power lines down and trees in the heavily-wooded area. On Sunday night they were still searching other homes in what was being called a search, rescue and recovery mission.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s maintenance shed, clubhouse and dog training facilities at the Camp Robinson Special Use Area have been destroyed by Sunday’s tornado at Mayflower.
Survey teams from the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Little Rock got to work this morning in Mayflower to track the path of Sunday’s killer tornado.
NWS forecaster John Robinson says it’s very unlikely that the teams will complete the entire track(s) today. If that’s the case, then there would not be a determination today as to the EF rating.
U.S. Senator Mark Pryor released the following statement on last night’s storms in Arkansas. Pryor will be touring the storm damage today with Governor Mike Beebe.

President Obama’s Call to Governor Mike Beebe:
The President called to receive an update on the severe weather. The President expressed his condolences for those families who list a loved one and his concern for the individuals still missing. He expressed his gratitude for the heroic first responders working to save lives.
The President directed Administrator Craig Fugate to travel to Arkansas to ensure the appropriate federal resources are being brought to bear to support the state and local efforts. The President asked the Governor to inform him and his team of any additional resources that could be provided to help the communities impacted.
