JACKSONVILLE, AR – A mother FOX16 spoke with back in August after her child was the second to die within a week at a Jacksonville apartment complex is now behind bars facing a murder charge in the death.
23-year-old Jessica Rollins is in the Pulaski County Jail on a $100 thousand bond.
The family was mourning their son and believed there were contributing factors to his death.
FOX16 asked multiple times if anyone in the family had done anything to harm him and they adamantly claimed Ka’Marion Hughes was a well-loved toddler who died suddenly.
“He had just turned two. I had just bought him this,” recalled Rollins back in August.
FOX16 first met Jessica Rollins in August 2014.
“I don’t want to do anything to his room. I want it to stay how it is,” said Rollins.
Her son, 2-year-old Ka’Marion Hughes had died suddenly. Preliminary results indicated respiratory distress.
“They said it might be fluid on his lungs. I couldn’t understand how he had fluid on his lungs,” said Rollins.
According to a probable cause filing by Jacksonville Police, Ka’Marion’s death was caused by high levels of oxymorphone.
Which is pain killer typically administered to terminal patients.
And that when Rollins was given a stress test there were indications of deception during questions about medication given to Ka’Marion.
According to the affidavit Rollins said she didn’t know what oxymorphone was.
But she did say she had found a pill in the closet that she threw in the trash and Ka’Marion might have gotten to it.
According to police she initially identified a pill to prevent heart attacks.
No information in the affidavit mentions Rollins admitting to trying to harm her child, though Jacksonville Police say additional information was gained during the investigation but they’re not releasing more at this time.
FOX16 spoke with K’Marion’s father who is not expected to face arrest.
He said he’s shocked by the accusations and regardless, he knows Rollins loved their son.
He’s asking for prayers for the family. Ka’Marion’s baby sister is currently in DHS custody.
